Song of Song 2:3

The bridegroom is speaking

'As the fir tree is among the forest trees, so is my beloved among the sons; In its shade I sit down, and its fruit is sweet to my mouth.”

In the midst of the rebellious sons of Israel, there is Jesus, the savior. The church says here that by grace we will abide in His shadow, give a fruitful life, and receive the fruit of the tree of life in eternal life.

As the fir tree is among the wild trees, so is my love among the sons; - As in the previous verse, two things are compared in this verse. In this verse we see that the wild tree is compared to the sons and the cypress tree to the beloved Jesus Christ. The Kichili tree is a delicious fruit bearing tree. It also has a name called The Apple of Israel. Even though there are many trees in the forest, just as the cypress tree is excellent, this verse shows that there is a true Lord who loves us, and that is Jesus Christ, among the sons of Israel, who are unbowed and rude.

I sit in its shade with pleasure, signifies that by the grace of the Lord we have the privilege of sheltering in his shade. This is in Psalm 36 : 7 - How wonderful is your grace, O God! Therefore it is said that the sons of men come under the shadow of your hair.

Its fruit is sweet to my mouth because the fruit we have in our lives through Jesus Christ is essential to the church and necessary to express God's love. Akanis are,

1. The fruit of salvation - Isaiah 45:8

2. The fruit of righteousness - Philippians 1 : 10

3. Fruit of the Spirit - Galatians 5:22

4. Sacrifice of thanksgiving which is the fruit of the lips - Ephesians 13:15

When we are fruitful in the days we live in this world, He has promised to give us the fruit of the tree of life in eternal life as a gift (Revelation 2:7). The scriptures mention that the fruit is as sweet as honey.

Are you in the shadow of Christ?
