Can Christians Do Yoga?

There are three types of subdivision in yoga :

 1) Physical fitness

 2) Mindfulness

 3) Recitation of Mantra 


  1) physical fitness:  There is nothing wrong with exercise, it is what all men need. Essential.

  1 Timothy 4: 7-9  Paul says that physical training is a little value but spiritual training is important. Physical training will be of use to us as long as we live in the world. Whereas, Spiritual training is not only useful for this world but also for the spiritual world as well. 

  Meditation  - This is a meditation on the thoughts of a man's mind. These types of exercises are normally given to people who are depressed.

  According to the Scriptures, our minds should not be empty.  Psalm 1: 2  says, We need to meditate on His Scripture day and night .  Romans 12: 2  says, your mind does not have to be empty. When the mind is empty, the devil can easily dwell. You should not do such exercises. 

  Recitation of Mantra  - Repeating a mantra. According to Scripture this is wrong. In  Matthew 6: 7,  Jesus Christ tells us not to repeat empty words. "Do not keep on babbling like pagans" 

 Let us avoid such exercises. Good physical training is essential but spiritual training is the most essential one. Amen.
