A forgiving Christian
As we forgive our debtors (Matthew 6:12).
A forgiving nature is essential for every Christian. Without forgiveness we are not true witnesses. Sometimes we cannot forget the events that happened many years ago and cannot forgive those who caused them. We must examine ourselves in the light of God's Word.
We pray that God forgives our transgressions. There is nothing wrong with that. That's good. But what does God say about forgiving our sins? If you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses (Matthew 6:15). Look at the relationship between prayer and forgiveness. Is there a spiritual life in which we can pray as we forgive our debtors in the Lord's Prayer? If we hold unforgivable things in our hearts, it will lead to bitter feelings. Those bitter feelings can manifest hateful traits.
Those who live in this way are living in complete contradiction to God's philosophy of love. The Lord's love is the love that forgives sinners. Jesus looked at those who had cruelly nailed him to the cross and said, Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. (Luke 23:34) . Let us pray that the Lord will give us the character of forgiveness. It will reveal Christ in us. Amen.
