A congregational song sung to the Bridegroom, Jesus Christ
" Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth—for your love is more delightful than wine.."
To understand this verse, let's first separate the sentence into two parts. At first, let's look at the first half, 'Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth'. ‘The kisses of his mouth’ refers to the emotionally filled words of Jesus Christ. In general, a kiss is an expression of love. In this verse, Jesus Christ, the bridegroom, has shown the expression of love to his bride (wife - the church) in the form of the words (expressed as kisses) coming out of the mouth through the lips. When it is uttered in poetic language, Solomon has beautified and refines God’s word as a kiss.
The church says in the verse that, Jesus, the blessing we have received from you is your word, in the form of the kiss. Comforting word of God, 'is not written with the ink, but is written by the Spirit of the living God; "You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts". (2Cor 3:3) According to this, the tender words are written with the gentle kisses on the tablets of the bride's heart by the Holy Spirit. The words in the book Song of Songs are the emotional words written for those who are to be taken as brides in the secret coming.
The second part of this verse is, “for your love is more delightful than wine.” In those days, wine was served only in the homes of the very rich people. During that period the feast was considered very noble and essential. And if wine is given in the marriage house, it will show the status, dignity and honor of the people in that house. Universally, wine brings pleasure to the heart. This wine represents worldly happiness. God's love and kindness revealed to us through His word is better than wine. That love is available to us through God's Word. Likewise we see that God’s word is sweet to our tongue. ' How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! (Psalm 119 : 103) God’s word, which reveals His kindness, affection, and love, is more valuable, pleasant, sweeter and delightful than wine, and more sweeter than honey for every Christian.
As we combine these two parts, What the word of the Lord tells us is that the word of God that made heaven, earth and all creation expresses peace and love to mankind. Jesus Christ communicates to us through His powerful Word in the Scripture. When we even have a personal relationship with Him through prayer, Jesus Christ speaks, guides, comforts and leads us with the peaceful and loving words needed for the human heart. “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (John 14 : 27)- As it has been said, Jesus Christ, the bridegroom, has revealed the love of the bride with his words in the Bible, and has given the church, a real peace, not the happiness that the world gives.
In this last period, in the midst of many tribulations, he has given the children of God who believe in Jesus Christ the peace that is specially given to endure and overcome the tribulation of the world. Words of love given to a person who is depressed or restless or in the midst of tribulation will not only get comfort and solace but also will become the sweetest word of relief. Those words become an expression of love like Kissing. Jesus is preparing the Bride (the Church) in the midst of worldly suffering. In it, he continues to give his words of love as encouraging kisses to those who deserve to be his bride. It is a comfort and a great blessing to the bride-to-be church from worldly tribulation.
